Scientific Summit 7:30 AM – 5 PM
Community Reception and Awards Dinner 5 PM – 8:45 PM
The National Brain Tumor 2017 Scientific Summit begins with a highly interactive day, bringing together renowned leaders from all aspects of the brain tumor field to engage in robust, problem-solving dialog. Together we will address the critical challenges and opportunities for advancing brain tumor research, share progress, explore emerging opportunities and challenges, and build strong and diverse partnerships to fast-track new discoveries toward treatments and a cure.
After this engaging day of scientific discussion, conversations and opportunities to learn and connect continue when members of the brain tumor patient, caregiver, and advocacy community, join with researchers, industry professionals, other like-minded non-profits, and NBTS staff and board, at our Community Reception, Poster Session, and Exhibits—followed by a very special Awards Dinner.

National Brain Tumor Society 2017 Scientific Summit Agenda
Thursday, October 5, 7:30AM – 8:45PM
7:30AM – 5:00PM
Welcome and Keynote
These sessions tackle some of the critical areas that are impeding the progress of our efforts and that the field is attempting to deal with as a whole. What does the future hold? Based on what we have accomplished and where we are heading next, these challenges demand new, collaborative thinking. What can we learn from each other? What can we each do to benefit the whole?
Session 1 — Tackling Adversity: Heterogeneity and Tumor Evolution
Session 2 — Tackling Adversity: Tumor Metabolism
The afternoon sessions look at some of the most promising areas of research to address unmet needs in neuro-oncology. Immunotherapy is changing the way we think of treating brain tumors-—how can we explore and optimize its full potential in neuro-oncology? Is the blood-brain barrier a real challenge—hear about innovative work being undertaken to address the considerations for targeting CNS tumors with drugs? Where are the real opportunities and challenges and what we need to do next?
Session 3 — Maximizing Opportunities: Immune System and Immunotherapy
Session 4 — Maximizing Opportunities: Drug Design and Blood-Brain Barrier
Community Reception with Scientific Posters and Exhibits
Patients, families, advocates, researchers, industry professionals, and other like-minded non-profits, along with NBTS staff and board, come together to share experiences and learn from one another. There will be scientific research posters on NBTS initiatives and collaborations with their respective Principal Investigators on hand for discussion as well as engagement areas to meet our incredible sponsors.
6:45PM to 8:45PM
Achievement Awards and Celebratory Dinner
This is an evening to recognize everyone’s contributions and commitment to the cause. NBTS highlights impact being made today and the plans for tomorrow. Together we celebrate by recognizing outstanding volunteers and leaders in the field, from our state lead advocates carrying our message from their communities to Capitol Hill, the Feldman and Ross Family Founder’s Award recipients (for excellence in adult and pediatric brain tumor research), and partners advancing progress for our patients.
