Your support of the National Brain Tumor Society allows us to invest wisely and strategically to support cutting-edge research in the United States and Canada.
Our Approach
National Brain Tumor Society research programs play an integral role in the progress toward new therapies for brain tumor patients. Our research funding programs are designed to achieve thoughtful, strategic investment across the research spectrum. We see NBTS as a critical component of the wider brain tumor research effort, and we aim not to duplicate the expertise or resources of other funders. We fund investigations that seek to improve therapies, which will ultimately lead to a cure. NBTS funds research that meets our dual criteria: promising scientific potential to lead to successful clinical trials, as well as the planning and commitment to see that the research will progress. Our Research program highlights for 2009 include:
- In 2009, NBTS gave over $3.5 million to brain tumor research across North America.
- Our grant structure represents a comprehensive model that is effective for researchers, inclusive of industry expertise, and promising for the patient community.
- Our Pediatric initiative focuses on the convergence of two key research areas: comprehensive molecular profiling and developmental neurobiology.
- NBTS participates in collaborative funding initiatives with other groups, and we continue to promote collaboration among scientists.
- Through our ongoing work with various stakeholders in the research and development pipeline, NBTS is focused on the critical goal of bringing new therapies to brain tumor patients efficiently and effectively.
Hope for a cure is supported by generous gifts from our supporters. Investigations that are not supported by a specific Chair of Research or Named Grant are made possible through our countless other donors and fundraising event participants.
