Kayla Battles Two Rare Unknown Brain Tumors

Kayla

Kayla may only be 18 years old, but she’s been through a lot. Kayla was diagnosed with a left temporal lobe brain tumor in April of this year. On October 16 she had brain surgery to remove what they thought was the only tumor. While in the Pre-op room an MRI got ordered and with the results bad news was received. They found a second tumor towards the back of her head in a location that was too risky to operate on during the first tumor recession, because of this the surgeon stuck to his original plan. Kayla’s surgery went great and the surgeon was able to remove the first tumor completely! After a long two week wait we finally got the results of her tumor type and answers as to what we were going to do about the other tumor. Most of her tumor was dead because her immune system managed to attack it, but a small part of it was alive. Because of this we have to watch the other tumor closely to make sure it doesn’t grow or change or spread any further.
