Stronger than Brain Cancer!

Ruth

On Sunday, April 6, 2014, my life changed forever in the matter of a heartbeat. At the time, I was married less than two years to the love of my life, had a successful career and was surrounded by loving family and friends. I had even recently returned from celebrating my 34th birthday in the Caribbean, drinking cocktails on the beach with my girlfriends, swimming and even scuba diving. Life was pretty much perfect. While I had been experiencing some occasional numbness in my left leg for a few months, I chalked it up to a possible yoga injury. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I would suffer a grand mal seizure that Sunday afternoon caused by a rare and particularly aggressive brain tumor.

Following my diagnosis, I quickly underwent brain surgery to remove the tumor. Through the miracle hands of my amazing neurosurgeon, the surgery itself was a complete success. However, I am now faced with the reality that the tumor may reoccur and I will now begin radiation treatment. Despite what I have faced in this very short time, I consider myself lucky in so many ways. As such, I am uniting with The National Brain Tumor Society to raise both money and awareness in the fight against brain tumors. I have joined the fight, not only as a survivor, but as an advocate for action so that we can continue researching and ultimately cure brain cancer.
