Traveling to Washington, DC
If you are not local to the DC area, please plan to arrive by the afternoon of Sunday, May 3, for our Welcome Reception (scheduled from 4-6 PM). However, if you are not able to be in the area by Sunday evening, please plan to arrive with enough time to begin the critical training sessions after breakfast (7:30 AM) on Monday, May 4.
If you will be departing on Tuesday evening, we ask that you book your return flight for 8 PM or later if you are flying out of Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA), or 9:00 PM or later if you are flying out of Dulles International Airport (IAD) or Baltimore Washington Airport (BWI). This should allow you enough time to attend all of the meetings scheduled for you, including those scheduled in the late afternoon.
Getting to the hotel
Participants are responsible for making their own transportation arrangements to and from the hotel (except for transportation to the Welcome Reception on Sunday night and to and from our Hill visits on Tuesday, when transportation will be provided). National Brain Tumor Society cannot reimburse travel, hotel accommodations, or parking expenses for participants.
We recommend flying into the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) since the hotel is less than 10 minutes away by car, and the hotel offers a free shuttle service to and from this airport (see Shuttle Service section below).
There are two other airports in the area (Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), but please consider the additional time required to travel between these airports and the hotel as you plan your flights. Travel to/from these airports can take between 40-120 minutes depending on your mode of transportation and your arrival/departure times.
The hotel offers a complimentary shuttle service to and from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, from 5:00 AM to midnight and a local Shuttle Service within a two-mile radius from 6:30 AM to midnight. However, there is not a set schedule for shuttle service – it is upon request. You can simply call the hotel’s operator at (703) 418-6800 and ask for a pick-up. For drop off, please speak with one of the Bellmen, and they can help you arrange transportation to your destination.
For directions, please visit the Hilton Crystal City website.
Parking is free for hotel guests. Discount parking for $15 per vehicle per night is available at the Hilton Crystal City for non-hotel guests parking. For participants not staying at the hotel, but parking a car during the day, please stop by the Front Desk to pre-pay and mention you are with the National Brain Tumor Society Head to the Hill to receive the discounted rate. Please take into account that the garage clearance is six feet., any larger vehicles will need to check in with the Bell desk for further directions.
Getting to Capitol Hill
On Tuesday May 5, we will depart from the Hilton Crystal City after a quick morning breakfast. If you are not staying at the Hilton Crystal City, you can meet us on Capitol Hill. It is important to attend this breakfast as any last minute schedule changes and other critical information will be provided. After breakfast, we will travel to Capitol Hill via charter buses to begin our Congressional meetings.
