A Mother’s Fight Against Brain Cancer

I had a seizure when I was 9 weeks pregnant. All of the doctors we went to see at the start of our journey through this fight wanted to about the baby. There was never a question. He saved my life! Without the hormones of the pregnancy I never would have know I had cancer!

I was going to put of any treatment until I knew that my child was ok. After I spend a month in the hospital in preterm labor, my son was delivered at 34 week (40wks is normal). Once again he saved my life because the tumor had grown in size.

He was delivered December 16th, spent a week in the NICU and I was back in the hospital on January 9th for the craniotomy the following day. Unfortunately I was left not being able to speak. I had to go to speech therapy in addition to radiation to train my brain to speak from a different part. It is so weird looking at a cat and not being able to say it. How many others lost their ability to speak? Crazy, right?!

It was supposed to be the happiest time. Newly pregnant and then this bomb shell. I was devastated. I will never forget sitting in my hospital room when the doctor came in and said, “you have a brain tumor” so I said “you mean cancer?”

There are so many different types of brain cancer.

Keep fighting!
