Edjah Nduom Announced as Chair Among Slate of New NBTS Board Officers

We are pleased to announce the appointment of a new slate of officers to the National Brain Tumor Society (NBTS) Board of Directors. Edjah Nduom, Erica Birke, Mil Parekh, and Leah Recht bring a remarkable range of expertise, dedication, and experience to these leadership positions at NBTS.

With their diverse backgrounds and shared commitment to our mission, we are confident that they will help steer our organization toward even greater success in advancing brain tumor research, patient support, and advocacy.

Edjah Nduom, MD – Chair, NBTS Board of Directors

Dr. Edjah Nduom holds the Daniel Louis Barrow Endowed Chair in Neurosurgery and is an associate professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. A fellowship-trained and board certified neurosurgical oncologist, Dr. Nduom’s clinical specialty is the surgical management of brain and spinal cord tumors. He holds numerous positions in national and international medical societies. Dr. Nduom received his MD from the University of Pennsylvania and his residency in Neurosurgery at Emory University. He completed a Research Fellowship in Neurosurgical Oncology in the Surgical Neurology Branch of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, and an additional Neurosurgical Oncology Fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Erica Birke – Vice Chair, NBTS Board of Directors

Erica Birke is the head of institutional and asset management marketing at Fidelity Investments in Boston, Massachusetts, and is a respected brand marketing and communications advisor with more than 20 years of agency and corporate communications experience. She is a senior counselor to C-suite leaders, an experienced spokesperson and media strategist, the author of major positioning speeches and advocacy pieces on business trends, and a leader in driving effective internal and external communications campaigns. Prior to her current role, Erica was the head of communications for Fidelity Institutional, a division of Fidelity Investments, and has served other communications roles within the company since 2009. She has a Bachelor of Arts in political science and English from James Madison University. Erica joined the board in honor of her father, who lost his life to glioblastoma, as well as others in her family who have been affected by the disease.

Leah Recht, JD – Clerk, NBTS Board of Directors 

Leah Recht is a partner at Orrick in the San Francisco office and a member of Orrick’s M&A and Private Equity Group. Her practice focuses on advising private equity funds and their portfolio companies in all aspects of their business. Leah’s representation includes structuring and negotiating various strategic and leveraged acquisitions of public and private targets, divestitures, carve outs, mergers and acquisitions, equity and debt financings, minority investments, restructurings, employment and executive compensation matters, corporate governance, and other general corporate counseling matters. Leah advises clients across a wide range of industries, including tech, food and drug, consulting services, retail, education, manufacturing, insurance, printing, and transportation. Leah earned her JD from Georgetown University and was recognized in 2018 and 2019 as a Super Lawyers’ “Rising Star” for business and corporate law. Leah’s father died at age 58 in 2007 after a 3-year fight with a chordoma on his brain stem. 

Mil Parekh – Treasurer, NBTS Board of Directors* 

Mil Parekh is senior vice president, wealth advisor, and senior portfolio management director at Morgan Stanley and resides in Arlington, Virginia. With more than 17 years of wealth management experience, Mil has dedicated his entire career to providing customized advice and investment solutions to highly successful individuals, families, and business leaders. While earning his degree in finance from George Washington University (GWU), Mil began his career at Morgan Stanley in 2000. In 2007, he earned the distinguished Certified Financial Planner™ designation, demonstrating his commitment to helping clients address the complicated issues facing today’s high net worth families. He prides himself on his ability to put advanced financial planning concepts into action and works diligently to demystify the complexities of today’s financial markets. He supports the National Brain Tumor Society in honor of his friend, Dove Wisnia. 

*Mil Parekh will begin his tenure as treasurer in October 2023.
