Brain Tumor Survivor
Jenni
I was diagnosed with a 5cm meningioma sitting on top of my brain in December 2012. I had urgent surgery however a complication occurred during the operation which left me suffering from a stroke affecting the right side of my body. After months and years of rehabilitation I still struggle to walk and my balance is not very coordinated. I also live with the fact that the tumor may return and I require 2 MRI’s each year to check if it is ok.
I had to learn to talk again as the stroke affected the right side of my mouth. I have heard of many survivors but none with the difficulties I face daily. I had my dream career up until the diagnosis and now am permanently disabled. I do have my family around me which keeps me going. Without the support and care of my husband of 37 years, I would not have made it this far. My journey is nowhere completed as I continue to work on my recovery. I would like to hear from anyone who has suffered a similar problem after major surgery.
