FAQs

I am registered for a Brain Tumor Walk, Race, Ride, or Freeze, what do I do?

Join us for the virtual event! If you’re already registered you don’t need to do anything besides keep an eye on your email and on your event page for forthcoming instructions about the virtual event, its program (including date and times), and how to best participate with us online. NBTS is committed to rallying the brain tumor community and creating inspiring days of honor, remembrance, hope, and unity for all those who’ve been impacted by this disease. We promise to stay in close communication and together, with your support, we will deliver a meaningful event day experience.

I’m a Team Captain and my event has transitioned to virtual. What should I tell my team members?

It is important that you communicate, first, that due to updated guidelines from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other leading government officials your event has had to move to a virtual platform in order to protect the health of the brain tumor community. However, this does NOT mean the event is canceled. So, we ask that you encourage all of your team members to stay in touch, look for future information on the virtual event, and follow the instructions for how they can join online and participate. Also, just because the event will be online instead of in-person doesn’t mean you have to stop fundraising to support our goal of conquering and curing brain tumors — once and for all. Your team members can still use their fundraising page and the online fundraising tips to rally support for our cause. Of course, we’ll miss the special atmosphere of one of our signature events, but social and digital media now offer great opportunities to still experience the feelings of inspiration, caring, support, togetherness, and hope. We’re committed to delivering an impactful event day experience.

I have not registered for a Brain Tumor Walk, Race, Ride, or Freeze yet, but was planning to. Should I still register even though the event is going virtual?

Yes! By registering you’ll ensure that you are receiving all the latest news related to your virtual event, including when, where, and how to participate. You’ll also gain access to the tools to create your own fundraising page and tips and ideas to get you started in your efforts to help us defeat brain tumors. We need you more than ever!

How can I participate virtually?

In the coming days and weeks, we’ll be finalizing plans for each event’s virtual program and activities. When details are available, including instructions for how to join, they’ll be posted to individual events’ homepages as well as emailed to all registered participants and communicated over social media. Of course, we’ll miss the special atmosphere of one of our signature events, but social and digital media now offer great opportunities to still experience the feelings of inspiration, caring, support, togetherness, and hope.

Can I still fundraise?

Yes, don’t stop now! Your fundraising tools and pages for the event will remain unchanged. COVID-19 is a serious threat to American public health and we want to be sure we’re responding appropriately. At the same time, brain tumors also remain a major area of unmet medical need. So while we’re doing our part to contain the spread of COVID-19 and protect patients with compromised immune systems from the impact of this pandemic, we also must keep our mission in clear focus and continue the fight against brain tumors.

What happens to the money I and my team have raised if our event is moved to a virtual event?

A move to a virtual event will not change anything about how NBTS handles event proceeds. The money you and your team have so generously raised will still go to support NBTS’ urgent mission to unrelentingly invest in, mobilize, and unite our community to discover a cure, deliver effective treatments, and advocate for patients and care partners.

Will I still receive my event t-shirt?

Yes! Registered participants who request an event t-shirt will receive that and any fundraising prizes they earn through their fundraising. We are developing a plan of how and when you will receive this. Please check your event website for the most current update for this.

Will I still receive the incentive rewards and other fundraising prizes I may qualify for?

Yes! This will be delivered via mail.

What happens to the registration fee I already paid?

We are in the process of converting our live event into a meaningful and inspiring virtual event. We hope that our registered participants will demonstrate their continued commitment to fighting brain tumors by joining us from home. If you cannot, we would greatly appreciate if you might consider allowing NBTS to retain your registration fee as a donation. National Brain Tumor Society’s critical need to fund brain tumor research remains as urgent as ever. If you still wish to request a refund, please review the refund details on your signature event website. Thank you in advance for your patience and support during this trying time for all of us. Stay safe and we hope to see you online soon.

My brain tumor Walk, Race, Ride, or Freeze is scheduled for after May. Will it still happen?

Yes. One way or another, we’re committed to uniting all of our event communities this year. However, with new developments unfolding rapidly and on a daily basis, we can’t commit at this time to the format of events beyond May. What we can say is that NBTS will continue to monitor the news related to COVID-19 as it evolves over the coming weeks. We’ll look to the CDC, government officials, and other public health authorities for updated guidelines related to mass gathering and community events, and will follow their expert advice in order to ensure we’re putting the health and safety of our community first. At such a time that recommendations for events are updated, changed, or expanded, we’ll communicate that information to you and how that may impact our event in June and beyond.

I was signed up to volunteer for an event that has gone vIrtual. What can I do now?

Join us online for the virtual event and check back regularly for future opportunities to engage and take action with the National Brain Tumor Society. We greatly appreciate your support and dedication.

Where can I find information and resources about COVID-19 and patients with a brain tumor and caregivers?

NBTS has compiled information to help you better understand our response to COVID-19, how to protect yourself and others, and what resources available for behavioral health and other needed areas support.
