National Brain Tumor Society (NBTS) proudly endorsed and championed the bipartisan Senate Resolution 245, designating July 17, 2019, as “Glioblastoma Awareness Day.” Introduced on May 16 by U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC), with the support of co-sponsors Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), Martha McSally (R-AZ), and Ed Markey (D-MA), S.Res. 245 will raise public awareness for glioblastoma (GBM), the most common and aggressive form of brain cancer, and leverage support for research, treatment development, patients, and their families.
Today, S.Res. 245 was approved and passed by the full United States Senate.
The following is a statement from David F. Arons, JD, Chief Executive Officer of the National Brain Tumor Society, on the passage of the resolution:
“The passage of the Glioblastoma Awareness Day resolution is an affirmation that national leaders understand the urgency for action to find a cure for this terrible disease, which impacts thousands of Americans from every walk of life each year. We’re honored to have worked with Senator Graham and the distinguished co-sponsors to shine a light on the need to accelerate progress against this deadly and devastating cancer and, in doing so, honor patients, survivors, and caregivers across our country and within Congress who have been impacted, personally.
“We thank all of the resolution’s co-sponsors for their tremendous support, the Senate leadership, and, indeed, the entire Senate for swiftly moving to pass this important measure.
“We ask all of America to join us in commemorating July 17 as Glioblastoma Awareness Day by paying tribute to those that have been taken by this disease, as well as the patients and families still coping with a diagnosis, and by uniting in a day of action and support to advance research and care so we can conquer and cure this disease once and for all.”
