Chris and Alicia’s 16-Year GBM Battle

Published on July 19, 2023 in Share Your Story

On July 13, 2003, my future husband’s life (and mine) changed forever. He had a grand mal seizure. Scans showed a large tumor. On August 8, 2003, Chris had surgery to remove a tumor the size of an egg. He became disabled but was alive. He still had to go through radiation and chemo.

We got married on November 15, 2003, after his first chemo. We spent 16 years together battling tumor recurrences and more treatments, plus a rare leukemia and a heart condition that may have been caused by his chemo. But I would do it all over again. Chris was a miracle. We had 16 years together versus the statistical 14 months. My brain tumor warrior passed peacefully in his sleep on June 21, 2020.

I share our story to tell others not to listen to statistics and keep fighting!
