How I Coped with My Brain Tumor
Lance
Almost 3 years ago my son and I were playing catch when I had a seizure. I had no idea what was happening. When I woke up I was told by a dr that I had a brain tumor. I was devastated. I thought of my son and how he may not have a dad for much longer. I was confused and scared. I got 3 opinions after being told I couldn’t be treated. Finally I was referred to the Mayo clinic in MN and was told they could operate with awake brain surgery. I was not very thrilled with this as you can imagine so I decided I would wait. I had 3 more seizures and decides it was time as my health was going down hill. I went to the clinic in MN and had the surgery. It was 6 hours of complete fear. I was awake from the get go. I remember hearing the saw, I remember feeling them saw my head open then heard the Dr say something nobody wants to hear “the brain is now exposed” I couldn’t believe what was happening. After 6 hours they were done and I was in intensive care for 2 days. My son came to see me parents brothers family etc. I felt like a new man knowing this was out f my head. After 3 months I had radiation for the remaining 10%. Then I was done. After 3 years I am cancer free and tumor free with no growth. What doctors can do is amazing. It is a scary feeling knowing this is with you forever. But going through this made me much stronger as a person and now I feel as if I can have a happy life forever. Hope you liked my story and gods wishes to all with this cancer. God bless.
