My Sister, Her GBM: Our Loss

Published on July 19, 2023 in Share Your Story

Guest Author: Holly S. in Ohio

Two little girls sit on a tree in a photo from the 1970s.

My sister, Sandra S., was decimated by glioblastoma (GBM) in 2022-2023. At the age of 55, she passed away, leaving a husband, two great adult children, two dogs, and yours truly.

Every day, I took her to her doctor visits: oncology, radiology, chemotherapies, physical therapies. Week after week, I witnessed her brilliant mind dull. I truly wanted her disease to jump from her body to mine because I was so scared for her: for what was to come and for the horrible theft of her young life.

Sandra could have had grandchildren. She could have blessed time to travel, and to go on living beyond her older sister.

I miss her every day.
