I’m 26, pregnant, and have a 4 yr old and I have..cancer?

Published on May 1, 2016 in Share Your Story

At 26 years old and 26 weeks pregnant I had endured a constant excruciating headache 24/7 for almost 3 months. After visiting every ER in my city and being told “It’s pregnancy hormones” “there’s nothing we can do, you’re pregnant!” By every single one the night came where my family decided enough was enough and woke me up from the bathroom floor and took me to the hospital and demanded answers. This is where I had my first seizure and doctors decided it was serious.
The primary nueroectodermal tumor (PNET) took up 93% of my right frontal lobe. It had enodometreal cells, been there since birth. It was a shocking diagnosis to say the least. After my first surgery it wasn’t if it was coming back, it was when.
After delivering my miracle baby at 33 weeks I had my 2nd surgery followed closely by extensive craniospinal radiation and chemotherapy. I have been in remission for 2 years and have a 7 year old son and beautiful almost 3 year old perfectly healthy baby girl.
Brain cancer was the toughest battle I ever fought and I spent nearly 2 years after battling the side effects and mourning over what my life used to be. BUT I LIVED!! I participate in the annual 5k head for the cure, and I share my story all around my community. My prayer is for a cure that will ensure nobody will be faced with this horrible disease ever again.
