Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde

Published on September 22, 2018 in Share Your Story

I found out I had a pituitary adenoma from my endocrinologist. She detected it from examining my labs. Then it was confirmed by an MRI brain scan. I was serving in the army at the time and the news came as a shock to me. The jagged pill I had to swallow was what my wife had noticed about my personality changes. She told me I wasn’t my normal fun loving self anymore and that I became mean and angry most of the time. I’d lash out at her for petty things. She told me there was a complete shift from who I used to be. Luckily, I was prescribed a medication called bromacriptine. I regularly took it each day and slowly gained my humanity back. I was told I’d probably have to take bromacriptine for the rest of my life. It’s been a struggle because the meds help, but it doesn’t cure. So I have good days and bad days. That’s all I have to say about that.
