National Brain Tumor Society announced the appointment of Michael J. Nathanson as Chair of its Board of Directors on July 8, 2013. Mr. Nathanson is Chief Executive Officer, President, and Chairman of The Colony Group, a leading, independent wealth management company with nearly $3 billion in assets under management and offices in Boston, as well as other cities along the East Coast. Mr. Nathanson has been active with the National Brain Tumor Society for several years and most recently served as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors.
Mr. Nathanson is a proven business leader and highly active in his community, both personally and professionally. As a respected member of the financial services and legal communities, he is deeply committed to sharing his knowledge and experiences with colleagues, clients, and peers. In addition to his service with the National Brain Tumor Society, Mr. Nathanson is a member of the Israel Bonds National New Leadership Board and has served on the Investment Committee of the Massachusetts Service Alliance, as well as a Trustee and Director of the Needham Historical Society.
Named five times by Barron’sMagazine as one of the top 100 independent financial advisors in the nation, Mr. Nathanson has held several senior positions at The Colony Group, including Chief Financial Officer and General Counsel. Previously, Mr. Nathanson was a senior partner at the prestigious law firm Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP. He received his Juris Doctor (cum laude) from Harvard Law School, an LL.M. in Taxation from Boston University School of Law, and a Bachelor of Arts (summa cum laude) from Brandeis University.
