I had just gotten back from storytelling in New Zealand and Hawaii, when I felt a little soreness in my right leg. I checked with my doctor who said it was just small problem, and not to worry. But then I checked with my acupuncture doctor, and he said to worry. I went in for a scan to be sure, and was putting back my coat, when the nurse came running out crying, “Stop where you going? You have to go straight to the hospital!” That was almost 9 years ago, and was the beginning of my journey into brain cancer. It’s been a long journey, with friends, fundraisers, a great family and community to support me. I can’t really storytell anymore, use my sign language or props, but luckily I already published a number of books and so I will keep on writing and publishing, to help myself and others! But it hasn’t been easy, there have been days of such frustration, and mourning what I had lost, but I kept going, and am delighted to be still here many years later.
