In 2018 our world got turned upside down. My 15 year old daughter was having issues when she would stand up quickly her vision would go black. I notified all her teachers to inform them that when she would stand up her vision was impaired. She had an eye exam coming up in two weeks and I noted everything so when she visited with the Dr she would know what has been happening.
The Dr asked if she could perform a certain eye test that may not be covered with insurance and without hesitation I said of course. After my daughter’s appointment she spoke with me and told me to get a MRI scheduled with our primary Dr. so I did the following week he got us in and she had a MRI on September 21 at 2:30 afterwards I received a call from the primary Drs office that he needed to meet with us. After visiting with her Dr we were informed they found a massive brain tumor.
I was in shock and we were on the road to Children’s Mercy that is 2 hours from where we live. There was a neurosurgeon who will take her case. She had a 12 1/2 hour surgery on September 24 . She has had numerous surgeries, a stroke and there has been more tumors since then because they are unable to get 100% of the first tumor. We are blessed with an amazing team at Children’s Mercy. She is our warrior and fights everyday! It’s hard to see our daughter go through so much.
Our lives have changed dramatically it hurst to see our daughter go through everything. It is hard to see her to go through life with having to deal with this everyday. She just got diagnosed with 3 new tumors last December and had surgery for one of the tumors on Friday. I wish we could take it away it’s hard as parents to see our daughter go through this. I always told my kids things happen for a reason I honestly still don’t know what the reason is for this happening. Our hearts break everyday! She is strong and a fighter she is attending college it is taking a little longer but that’s okay. She wants to be a nurse or physician assistant.
I was glad I found this organization! I bring awareness to parents I meet. You never know
We go gray in May for our daughter who was diagnosed in 2018 brain tumor. We wear gray to bring awareness
It will change your life forever but our daughter is still a person. When our daughter got diagnosed people called her half brain. People need to educate their children
